During Open Door Day held on Monday, 23 September, visitors of the Saeima showed great interest in the unprecedented opportunity to send a postcard bearing a postage seal of the Saeima to any place in Latvia.

Many visitors acknowledged that it is a unique opportunity to send a postcard of the Saeima to their families, friends or schools. One of the visitors said that she sent the postcard to her son wishing him to become a patriot, while other senders wrote how happy they are about living in Latvia.

During this year’s Open Doors Day, guests of the Saeima could attend not only the ceremony of congratulating the youth choir Kamēr… with winning the prestigious European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in Italy but also the meeting of the Presidium of the Saeima.

Furthermore, visitors could view the exhibition of Sports at the Saeima featuring the sports equipment of MPs, as well as their trophies and awards. Photos and short videos reflected the most memorable moments from competitions and awards ceremonies.

During Open Door Day, students showed an interest in the Youth Parliament project. Former members of the Youth Parliament shared their experience and explained how to become a member of the Youth Parliament. Teachers wanted to learn about the school programme “Meet the Saeima”, which already for the second year is taking the Saeima to schools all around Latvia and explaining the work of the parliament in an interactive way. Nearly 40 schools applied for an informative lecture on this day.

The quiz that tested the visitors’ attentiveness and knowledge about the interior of the main building of the Saeima made the tour even more exciting.

Each visitor received an informative booklet that was used as a guidebook during the tour and that will serve as a souvenir of their visit.

This was the sixth time when the Saeima held Open Door Day, and on this day the parliament was visited by more than 1,700 people.
