Job Shadow Day at the Saeima
The Job Shadow Day is an annual career education event taking place all across Latvia, including the Parliament, which also welcomes inquisitive “shadows”.
The Saeima is one of the most popular locations of the Job Shadow Day in Latvia. During the event, schoolchildren can learn about the daily work of MPs and the staff of the Saeima and gain better knowledge about the legislative process. In addition, schoolchildren can learn about various informative and educational events and projects organised by the Parliament.
Job Shadow Day at the Saeima on 4 April 2025
More than 120 pupils gathered at the Saeima building on Shadow Day, 4 April, to gain first-hand insight into the daily work of Members of Parliament and parliamentary staff.
Throughout the day, pupils observed the professional routines of the Speaker of the Saeima, Daiga Mieriņa, members of the Presidium, and MPs, and also “shadowed” various parliamentary staff members.
Participants had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the everyday responsibilities of MPs and staff, as well as deepen their understanding of the legislative process. Pupils also took part in parliamentary events, met with MPs in their political groups, and explored the Saeima building.
In the Saeima Plenary Chamber, pupils were welcomed by members of the Presidium, followed by a group.
The Saeima remains one of the most popular shadowing locations in the country. Over the past 14 years of participation in Shadow Day, more than 2,500 pupils have shadowed MPs and parliamentary staff.
Shadow Day is a career education initiative organised by Junior Achievement for pupils in grades 1 through 12. The aim is to introduce young people to various sectors and professions, supporting them in making informed choices about their future education and career paths.
