On Sunday, 9 January, Mrs.Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, sent a letter to Mr.John Boehner, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, offering her condolences in regard to the Arizona shooting.

On behalf of the Saeima, Mrs.Āboltiņa expresses her heartfelt condolences to the people of the United States and especially to the bereaved relatives and friends. In her letter, the Speaker of the Saeima states that in this tragic moment her thoughts are with the people of the United States and that she hopes for a speedy recovery of Ms. Gabrielle Giffords, Member of the U. S. House of Representatives, who was injured in the shooting.
