
On Thursday, 15 May, the Saeima confirmed Aigars Strupišs as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Mr Strupišs was first appointed to the post by the Saeima on 21 May 2020. Upon the completion of his term, the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court proposed his candidacy for a second term.
According to the Law “On Judicial Power,” the work of the Supreme Court is led by the Chief Justice, who is confirmed by the Saeima for a five-year term from among the judges of the Supreme Court, based on a proposal from the Supreme Court Plenary Session. The same individual may hold the office of Chief Justice for no more than two consecutive terms.
