Saeima greenlights Latvian troops’ participation of UN international operation “United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation” (28.04.2022.)
On Thursday, April 28, the Saeima decided on the participation of the Latvian National Armed Forces troops in the United Nations (UN) international operation “United Nations Truce Supervision Organization” (UNTSO) for a period until 1 May 2024.
Sports teams may no longer participate in national championships and national cup tournaments in Russia and Belarus (28.04.2022.)
On Thursday, 28 April, the Saeima adopted in the final reading urgent amendments to the Sports Law. The amendments provide that sports teams registered in Latvia are prohibited from participating in national championships and national cup tournaments in Russia and Belarus.
On Thursday, 21 April, the Saeima adopted an urgent amendment to the Law on Assistance to Ukrainian Civilians. The amendment grants Ukrainian women fleeing the war the right to receive state-funded termination of pregnancy and the related healthcare services at an in-patient or out-patient clinic of a medical treatment institution in Latvia.
On Thursday, 21 April, the Saeima unanimously adopted a statement on the aggression and war crimes of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, expressing solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. In the Statement, the Saeima acknowledges that the Russian Federation is currently committing genocide against the people of Ukraine.
Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, is on a working visit to Poland, where she is participating in a meeting of women parliamentary speakers of EU countries on the current situation concerning war refugees and the next steps needed for the support of Ukrainian people.

On Thursday, 21 April, the Saeima adopted in the second and final reading urgent amendments to the Citizenship Law, stipulating that Latvian citizenship can be revoked for persons supporting war crimes or other internationally punishable crimes against another democratic country.
